Fencing Stations

We are working on a "Stations" concept. The fencing stations are a series of wall exercises which fencers must during their warm-ups. The idea is to instill young fencers with good self-management habits. Older fencers can use the stations to improve point control and sentiment du fer.

Tennis ball targets for point control

You can hardly see them in this picture.

2 hanging tennis ball targets. Here's how to make them.

One reads, "Hit from guard x10."

The other reads, "Hit from lunge x10."

Hanging targets for hitting

The writing at the bottom are instructions about what exercises to do against the target.

Building. These targets are composed of a wooden backing board, with a layer of foam glued over it. Then the whole thing is shoved into a canvas bag and hung from a little hook.

Sentiment du fer / control

Hangar wires stuck through a piece of wood, twisted into interesting shapes.

The student traces the lines with the tip of his blade, which cannot leave the wire.

For added fun, you can hang a mask on the forte of your weapon:

Point control whirlygig

Follow the arrows, do the following with your tip:

  • Twang the doorstop
  • Hit two nail-heads
  • Spin the large washer clockwise
  • Twang the doorstop again
  • Spin the large washer counter-clockwise
  • Hit two nail-heads

Lunge crucifix

This didn't work.

This frame was made to hang on the wall, using braces and hooks on the back of the arms. The loop in the front, near the bottom is for a stretchy band (the elastic used for building muscle, stretching and rehabilitation).

The student would step into the loop of the band, get en garde, and lunge.

Another version is in the works.
