How to make a tennis ball fencing target
Phase I: Construction || Phase II: Use
|
About |
The tennis ball target is an old standby of competitive point-weapon fencers. It doesn't teach you much about fencing, but it does give you an interesting way to develop specific fencing skills: grip, extension, and point control. You should use the target until hitting the ball is second nature. |

First, get a tennis ball. |

Everybody has one lying around. You might borrow one from your dog. He will understand. |

If you're an Epee fencer or a committed foilist, you should start with a golf ball. |

3. |
Your goal is to attach the string to the tennis ball. You can tie or glue the string to the ball, but this doesn't always last. You can try using an eye-bolt. This is especially good for golf balls. Get an eye-bolt at your hardware store. |

4. |
With a little muscle you can screw the eyebolt into the tennis ball. If you're using a golf ball, you will need a drill with a narrow bit to make the starter hole for you. You should hold the golf ball in a vise (not your hand) when you drill it. |
